State-of-the-Art training in FAIR Research Data Management

This trainer-focused guide has been developed under the PATTERN Project to support educators in delivering the “FAIR Research Data Management” course. It is designed to help trainers teach both beginners and intermediate-level learners about the principles and practice of managing research data in alignment with the FAIR principles: Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable.

The training material provides a complete set of resources for instructors, including session plans, presentation materials, interactive activities, case studies, and participant evaluation tools. Trainers are guided through delivering five core sessions that cover the following topics: an introduction to Research Data Management and the FAIR principles, strategies for making data findable, techniques for ensuring data accessibility, best practices for data interoperability, and guidelines to maximize data reusability.

Designed for flexible use, this training material can be delivered in-person, online, or as asynchronous self-paced learning. This guide empowers trainers to confidently deliver impactful sessions that foster better research data practices and increase the visibility and reuse of scientific outputs.

PATTERN

In this Train the Trainers guide user can use this material to encourage learners to:

  • Understand the principles of FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) data.
  • Apply these principles to their own research data management practices.
  • Recognize the importance of incorporating FAIR principles into their routine data management to enhance research efficiency and effectiveness.
