Abstract
This module examines reproducibility challenges in qualitative research, covering methodological, epistemological, and practical considerations. The module consists of four parts and ends with an assessment quiz:
- Reproducibility and Qualitative Research
- Open Science and Qualitative Research
- How to do Open Qualitative Research
- How to Support Open Qualitative Research
This module is based on the review paper Cole, N. L., Ulpts, S., Bochynska, A., Kormann, E., Good, M., Leitner, B., & Ross-Hellauer, T. (2024, December 23). Reproducibility and replicability of qualitative research: an integrative review of concepts, barriers and enablers. https://doi.org/10.31222/osf.io/n5zkw_v1
Learning outcomes
By the end of this module, learners will be able to:

Course Description
The TIER2 Reproducibility Training Course provides researchers and stakeholders with a comprehensive introduction to the principles, practices, and challenges of research reproducibility. It explores the foundations of reproducibility, examines how reproducibility issues vary across disciplines, and introduces practical tools and strategies to strengthen transparency and integrity in research. By situating reproducibility within the broader TIER2 project, this course equips participants with both conceptual understanding and actionable approaches to improve research practices in their own contexts.
Purpose
This course was created to raise awareness, build capacity, and provide practical guidance on reproducibility within the research community. Its purpose is to empower participants to recognize reproducibility challenges, apply reproducible practices in their work, and contribute to a culture of research integrity. The training supports the overarching TIER2 project mission of fostering sustainable and credible scientific progress by aligning researchers, publishers, and funding organizations on reproducibility goals.
Primary Audience
- Researchers across the social, life, and computer sciences
- Representatives from funding organizations
- Publishers and editorial staff
- Research policy stakeholders and decision-makers
Prerequisites
None. This is an introductory-level course designed for a diverse audience.
