Find out more about this session

1. What is the main focus of this session?expand collapse

This session aims to provide a clear and practical introduction to the OpenAIRE Graph infrastructure, its architecture, data model, and real-world applications. Participants will gain a foundational understanding of what the OpenAIRE Graph is, the key entities it connects, the services it supports, and how to interact with it through public interfaces such as APIs, data dumps, and documentation.

2. Who is this session designed for?expand collapse

This session is tailored for early-career data stewards, repository managers, and institutional research data management (RDM) professionals involved in, or preparing to engage with—repository governance, policy implementation, metadata curation, and ethical oversight.

3. Why is this session relevant to my role as a data steward?expand collapse

As a data steward, this session will equip you to engage with the OpenAIRE Graph as a rich, interconnected data ecosystem. You’ll learn how to leverage its relationships across publications, datasets, software, organizations, people, and funding. These insights will enhance your capacity to support research discoverability, conduct transparent bibliometric analyses, ensure compliance with Open Science mandates, and contribute to institutional strategy.

4. What kind of real-world cases will we explore?expand collapse

We will explore how the Graph is applied in practical institutional settings, including examples of how organizations use it for advanced bibliometric tracking, beyond basic publication metrics. Cases will also highlight how institutions monitor Open Access and Open Science compliance across their research portfolios.

5. What will I learn about institutional roles and governance?expand collapse

You’ll discover how the OpenAIRE Graph can support institutional governance by offering visibility into research outputs and funding relationships. The session will show how data stewards can use the Graph to ensure metadata quality, monitor compliance with funder and institutional mandates, and provide evidence for strategic planning and policy development.

6. Will I be introduced to key Graph features and recent service updates?expand collapse

Yes. Participants will be provided with up-to-date materials and guidance on the Graph’s evolving features, interface options, and service enhancements, ensuring you can confidently navigate current and future developments.

7. What skills or outcomes can I expect from this session?expand collapse

You’ll leave with hands-on skills in exploring and querying the Graph via its APIs and datasets. Key takeaways include the ability to: Navigate the Graph's public data Understand its entity relationships Monitor institutional research output and compliance Apply the Graph to support Open Science policy reporting and bibliometric tasks.

8. Will there be a daily assignment or hands-on or group activities?expand collapse

The closed session will include hands-on exercises where participants can work in small groups on real-world case studies. Participants will navigate through the OpenAIRE Graph documentation while learning to formulate and execute effective queries using the OpenAIRE Explore portal. Throughout these exercises, they will develop skills to extract meaningful insights from interconnected research outputs and collaborate to present their approaches and findings to fellow participants.

9. Is follow-up support or mentoring available after the session?expand collapse

Yes. Participants are invited to join the OpenAIRE Graph User Forum and monthly community calls, where they can access ongoing support, share challenges, and collaborate with peers and service developers.
