Find out more about this session

1. What is the main goal of OpenAIRE’s RDM Working Group?expand collapse

The OpenAIRE's Research Data Management Working Group aims to support the development and dissemination of research data management (RDM) best practices across Europe. Its activities include coordinating RDM training (e.g., bootcamps for data stewards), curating and reusing training materials, developing guidelines (e.g., for data repositories), and showcasing OpenAIRE services aligned with FAIR principles.

2. Who are the primary audiences for the RDM WG's activities?expand collapse

The primary audience includes early-career data stewards, research support staff, and institutional stakeholders responsible for RDM implementation. The WG also collaborates with national funders, repository managers, and tool developers to align efforts and resources.

3. How does the WG promote the interoperability of tools and services?expand collapse

The WG emphasizes workflows that demonstrate how OpenAIRE services (e.g., Argos, Graph, Validator) integrate across the research lifecycle. They focus on realistic, user-friendly scenarios showing how researchers and data stewards can leverage interoperable tools without needing deep technical expertise.

4. How does the WG collaborate with external partners and reuse resources?expand collapse

The WG regularly involves partners around EOSC federation in co-creating materials, training content, and case studies. It also audits external resources (e.g., Zenodo slides, university checklists) for reuse and ensures proper licensing (e.g., CC) before integration.

5. What are future plans or open tasks for the RDM Working Group?expand collapse

The RDM Working Group is focusing on expanding modular training resources aligned with the research data lifecycle and FAIR principles, integrating hands-on use of OpenAIRE services, and launching a Train-the-Trainer programme to build local capacity. Future tasks also include strengthening collaborations with disciplinary and national communities, improving metadata standards, and developing sustainable training delivery through platforms like OpenPlato. Additionally, the group aims to maintain a dynamic knowledge base, such as FAQs, study cases, and glossaries, that evolves with community feedback and supports a culture of FAIR and responsible data stewardship.

6. How can I join or collaborate with the RDM Working Group?expand collapse

If you're interested in contributing to or collaborating with OpenAIRE’s RDM Working Group, whether as a RDM expert, trainer, content contributor, partner institution, or participant in upcoming activities, you are warmly encouraged to get involved. The WG welcomes new members who bring expertise, enthusiasm, or relevant resources to enrich its shared goals. Simply submit a request using the contact form or expression of interest link provided below, and the OpenAIRE Training Coordinator will reach out to you as soon as possible to discuss the best way to get involved.
