Find out more about this session

1. What is the main focus of this session?expand collapse

This session is centered around metadata governance, specifically, the workflows involved in disambiguating and harmonizing institutional metadata using OpenOrgs, an OpenAIRE service that curates organizational metadata, duplicates and relationships from organizational entities sourced from multiple data sources.

2. Who is this session designed for?expand collapse

Early-career data stewards, repository managers, institutional RDM support staff and librarians involved in repository governance and metadata quality – particularly those interested in organizational metadata curation within the OpenAIRE infrastructure.

3. Why is this session dedicated to? How would I benefit regarding my stewardship role?expand collapse

This session will introduce you to the basics of how organizational metadata is managed and why it matters for research visibility, attribution, and reporting. Through OpenOrgs, you will see how common problems such as duplicate or inconsistent organization names are addressed. By focusing on organizational identity disambiguation and metadata enrichment, the session will help you understand how to improve metadata integrity, boost discoverability, strengthen affiliation tracking, and support good governance in your stewardship role.

4. What kind of real-world cases will we explore?expand collapse

We will troubleshoot realistic dilemmas such as: Fragmented institutional records (multiple names, acronyms, etc.), Conflicting or missing identifiers, or different identifiers across time and systems Ambiguous parent–child relationships between organizations.

5. What will I learn about institutional roles and governance?expand collapse

You will gain an understanding of how institutions are represented across registries, how governance decisions around metadata curation impact visibility and reporting, and how OpenOrgs provides a structured solution to these challenges.

6. Will I be introduced to OpenOrgs features and services updates?expand collapse

Yes. The session will introduce the main OpenOrgs activity pillars – such as duplicate detection, curation workflows, metadata enrichment, and parent–child structuring – as well as highlight recent updates and new functionalities.

7. What outputs or skills can I expect to walk away with?expand collapse

You will leave with a clear conceptual understanding of organizational metadata challenges, the role of OpenOrgs in addressing them, and awareness of opportunities to engage further as a curator through future training.

8. Will there be any hands-on or group work?expand collapse

No. This is an introductory session only. Hands-on tasks with OpenOrgs will be offered in a dedicated training for participants who express interest in becoming curators.

9. Is there any follow-up support or mentoring after this session?expand collapse

Yes. If you’re interested in becoming an OpenOrgs curator, you will gain access to ongoing support – tutorials, community calls, guides, but also training sessions with our OpenOrgs curation board.

10. How can I attend this session?expand collapse

This is a publicly open session. You will receive all necessary notifications upon registration.

11. Is this session complementary with a daily assignment? If yes, what this assignment would be focused on and what will the requirements be?expand collapse

This session is only an introduction to OpenOrgs service. Participants who are interested in becoming OpenOrgs curators can visit the website [openorgs.openaire.eu] to learn more and register their interest. Based on this, a dedicated training will be arranged, where tasks and practical exercises will be provided.
