OpenAIRE MONITOR Redefining Monitoring: Research & Open Science Metrics

1. What is the main focus of this session?expand collapse

This session introduces participants to the OpenAIRE MONITOR service. It provides a live walkthrough of how institutions, funders, and research initiatives can monitor Open Science practices using dashboards built on the OpenAIRE Graph. You'll explore interactive indicators and learn how MONITOR supports transparency and informed decision-making.

2. Who is this session designed for?expand collapse

While all Bootcamp participants are welcome, this session is especially valuable for early-career data stewards, RDM officers, and institutional staff who support or report on Open Science practices, especially those responsible for evidence-based policy, compliance monitoring, or strategic planning. This session is open to all Open Science interested stakeholders.

3. How does MONITOR support data stewardship and institutional roles?expand collapse

Though MONITOR does not define governance structures, it offers stewards and policy officers a clear, actionable overview of Open Science indicators, such as open access levels, reuse metrics, and publishing trends. It helps identify gaps, support planning, and inform institutional strategies.

4. What kind of real-world examples will be shown?expand collapse

Participants will see a a real institutional dashboard demo of a live MONITOR dashboard (e.g. real example based on University of Minho), including how to view and interpret core indicators, navigate access settings, and rearrange charts for custom views.

5. What hands-on elements are included?expand collapse

Participants will observe a short interactive demo where they can ask questions live. While not fully hands-on, the session will demonstrate how to change visualisations, filter data, and customise dashboards. A sandbox for later testing can be provided upon request.

6. How does MONITOR support data stewardship and institutional roles?expand collapse

You’ll walk away with the ability to: a. Understand the scope and function of MONITOR b. Interpret basic Open Science indicators in context c. Explore dashboard customisation and access levels d. Recognize how MONITOR fits into broader stewardship and institutional monitoring workflows
