Find out more about this session

1. What is the main focus of this session?expand collapse

This session introduces ARGOS, OpenAIRE’s powerful and user-friendly service for creating, managing, and publishing Research Management Plans (RMPs). Participants will learn how ARGOS supports both Data Management Plans (DMPs) and Software Management Plans (SMPs) in line with FAIR principles, international standards, and funder requirements. The session will explore how ARGOS simplifies planning across complex research teams and disciplines while ensuring reproducibility, transparency, and alignment with Open Science best practices. This session is dedicated to all new updates of the service.

2. What is ARGOS and how does it support FAIR research?expand collapse

ARGOS is an OpenAIRE service designed to help researchers, data stewards, and institutions create structured, standards-compliant RMPs that embed FAIRness and Open Science into the research process from the beginning. It features machine-actionable templates, collaborative tools, and direct integration with repositories, persistent identifiers, and OpenAIRE services—making it a central part of research planning and execution workflows.

3. Who should attend this session?expand collapse

This session is ideal for data stewards, RDM professionals, researchers, PhD students, and project managers who are responsible for creating, reviewing, or supporting research management plans. It’s particularly valuable for anyone navigating multi-partner collaborations, funder compliance, or the integration of FAIR principles into research planning.

4. What will I learn during the session?expand collapse

Participants will: a. Learn how to navigate the ARGOS interface and access ready-made templates b. Understand how to build and manage FAIR-aligned DMPs and SMPs collaboratively c. Explore how ARGOS connects plans with real research outputs (e.g., datasets, software) d. Use built-in FAIRness checks to assess and improve their plans e. Discover how to publish and share RMPs with persistent identifiers.

5. How does ARGOS benefit my work as a data steward?expand collapse

ARGOS is built to support collaborative, standards-based research management. Data stewards can use ARGOS to: a. Guide researchers through structured, FAIR-aligned planning b. Monitor contributions across teams and institutions c. Link plans to outputs and repositories directly d. Customize templates to reflect institutional policy e. Promote machine-actionable documentation that enhances reproducibility and reuse.

6. Will there be hands-on activities?expand collapse

Yes, the session includes a guided, practical walkthrough of the ARGOS platform to help participants gain direct experience. You will learn how to create a new plan, select appropriate templates, and work collaboratively with peers by assigning access to specific sections. The hands-on portion will also demonstrate how to enrich your plan with links to datasets, software, and other research outputs, and how to use the built-in FAIRness assessment tools. This practical exposure will ensure you leave with the confidence to start using ARGOS in your day-to-day support or research work.

7. What makes ARGOS different from other DMP tools?expand collapse

ARGOS stands out by offering an interactive and connected planning environment that goes far beyond traditional, static data management plan templates. It allows real-time collaboration with clearly defined contributor roles, making it ideal for multidisciplinary and multi-institutional projects. The platform is integrated with trusted repositories, metadata standards, and OpenAIRE services, enabling users to embed research outputs directly into their plans. Its support for machine-actionable DMPs enhances discoverability and reuse, and institutions can even customize the platform to reflect their own templates and policies—ensuring alignment with both funder requirements and institutional workflows.

8. How can I start using ARGOS after the session?expand collapse

Getting started with ARGOS is simple and doesn’t require any installation. You can access it directly with your academic, institutional, or personal credentials. After attending the session, you’ll receive all necessary links and support materials to begin drafting your own plans immediately. Whether you’re a researcher, a data steward, or an administrator, you’ll be able to use ARGOS to create and share structured, FAIR-aligned research management plans that reflect your project’s needs and ensure compliance with Open Science expectations.
