      Training Goals 

      Participants in this course will:

      • Understand the concept and significance of Open Access and the DOAJ's role in it.
      • Learn to navigate and utilize the DOAJ platform effectively.
      • Implement best practices in scholarly journal management.
      • Recognize and counteract predatory and unethical publishing practices, while understanding the role of AI in publishing.

      Course Structure

      This course is crafted for journal editors, publishers, and academics, focusing on critical aspects of open access publishing. It consists of four detailed modules:

      Module 1: Introduction to Open Access and DOAJ 

      This module covers the basics of Open Access, the importance of barrier-free access to scholarly materials, and the role of DOAJ in promoting high standards in publishing.

      Participants will learn about the criteria for inclusion in the DOAJ, how to apply, and the support available through DOAJ.

      The module includes slides and an explanatory video to facilitate understanding.

      Module 2: Navigating the DOAJ Platform

      Detailed instructions on how to navigate the DOAJ website, how to submit a scholarly journal application, and how to share article metadata effectively.

      The session incorporates interactive elements such as icebreaker exercises and gamification to engage participants actively.

      Module 3: Transparency and Best Practices in Journal Management

      Focuses on enhancing transparency in journal management, establishing robust editorial policies, and adhering to best practices in journal content, practices, governance, and business operations.

      Module 4: Ethical Publishing and AI

      A two-part webinar that first addresses predatory and unethical publishing practices, providing strategies to identify and avoid them.

      The second part delves into the implications of using AI in editorial decision-making, ensuring it is used responsibly to enhance the integrity of the publishing process.

      Learning Outcomes

      By completing this course, participants will be able to:
